Baby Girls Confiscated & Sold in China

Baby Girl

As I’m checking the news this morning I come across a story about baby girls in China.  Apparently under China’s family planning laws, in rural areas parents are allowed 2 children while in urban areas parents are allowed only 1 child.  If the parents do have more than the allotted number of children they are fined about $3000 dollars.                This policy and its continuation alone is messed up but what comes next is worse.

The BBC reports that:

Dozens of baby girls in southern China have reportedly been taken from parents who broke family-planning laws, and then sold for adoption overseas.

An investigation by the state-owned Southern Metropolis News found that about 80 girls in one county had been sold for $3,000 (£1,800).

The babies were taken when the parents could not pay the steep fines imposed for having too many children.

Local officials may have forged papers to complete the deals, the report said.”

I just hope that this is really being investigated.  Let’s all stop for a moment and meditate, pray, or whatever fits you best, for these little baby heroines and their families.
