Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

Like the South African leader Nelson Mandela before her, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has come to be seen internationally as a symbol of heroic and peaceful resistance in the face of oppression.
She was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1991, by which time she had been under house arrest for two out of what was to become six years.
